May 31st, 2008 | Category: DJ Mixes, Music

We’ve got a nice little present for you today… DJ Supra’s “Dancing Socks” mix (your welcome, cuz you’ll be thanking me later)

About DJ Supra:

  • She was born in China and moved to Provo, Utah when she was 9; she moved to Las Vegas in 2000.
  • She’s been mixing since ‘99…
  • She describes her signature sound as feel good music. Not too sophisticated, not too loud, not to soft, not to emo, not too hard, not too crunchy, but just right…
  • She, most notably, loves Klever, DJ Eli Escobar, VHS or Beta, MGMT, Chromeo, Junior Senior…

Well, it’s summer time so you can catch her ill sets in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Pool on Mondays with DJ Keith Evans ( a little bit of everything: house, hip-hop, electro and indie). Be sure not to miss her at Caramel on Fridays, and The Lounge at Dos Caminos on Saturdays.

Foreignistas: CSS

May 27th, 2008 | Category: Mp3's, Music

Lovefoxx, Luisa, Ana, Carolina and Adriano, like Stacy’s mom, have got it going on. Even with the departure of their bassist and friend Ira Trevisan, these are some seriously bad-ass Brazilian foreignistas.

They have a new album “Donkey” dropping on July 21st. They embody everything great about style, sassy-lyriced electro and live performance INSANITY. In fact, they are so amazing live that I want to hide on their tour bus and stalk them like an axe-murdering urban legend, without the axe. And then, when they finally realize I’ve been hiding on the bus, I want to get crazy and wasted with them on Stella and Newcastle. And when they have ALL finally passed out: I want to raid they’re closets and iTunes libraries.

Electro Flashback… *Mount Sims*

May 26th, 2008 | Category: Mp3's, Music

So, I was inspired by my last EF post which featured some Mount Sims remixes.

Now it’s time for the real deal.

Mount Sims is the reason I started listening to electro. I remember being at the Orpheum (Tampa) in 2002 and hearing “How We Do” …I was sold. And you better believe I started to “Kick Kangaroos”.

Enjoy.

We Are Vapors

May 24th, 2008 | Category: Style

Indiekrush.com recently caught up with our friends, WE ARE VAPORS… The We Are Vapors street wear co. offers up some of the illest graphics on the streets of LA today. Owner/Designer/mastermind, of We Are Vapors, Andre Beauvais took a few minutes out of his hectic schedule to sit down with me, and answer a few questions….

When was We Are vapors started? January 2006

What inspired you to start a tee company? It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid, I don’t quite know where it came from but every path I’ve tried to take has lead me to this, so I’m gonna take it and run with it. Sounds hella cheezy but i think its my destiny, hahah!!!

How long has WAV been in the game? Its been about 2 n’ a half years since we put our very first one color tee out & we havn’t stopped since.

Where is WAV’s hometown? Whittier Ca & Allover Los Angeles County.

Where can we find your gear? We’ve got accounts with boutiques allover the U.S., and are currently working on expanding to new states, and hope to go International very soon!

Plans for the future? Our plans are to stick around and continue doing what we love, keeping things fun, and new, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Greatest satisfaction from making WAV tees? I’d have to say the greatest satisfaction we’ve gotten from, We Are Vapors has always been being in some random place seeing someone wearing a design that I worked hard on. I don’t think it gets better than that.

How many people on your team? “The Crew” consists of 5 of us who take care of the everyday responsibilities and several diehard streeteamers. Theres no way we are vapors would survive without these people, together we are unstopable.

Who/what inspires WAV? Struggles, trials, and obstacles we encounter in our everyday life, and the everyday hustle to overcome them.

Who is WAV for? We Are Vapors is for everyone, we try not to market ourselves to only one specific group we just do what we love, and express ourselves through our art and talent. I think people from every backround can appriciate that. We get positive feedback from all sorts of people, its what keeps us going.

What can we expect from WAV in the near future? We are currently preparing to make the shift from graphic t’s to full cut & sew, so stay tuned.

Tell us about your blog? The We Are Vapors blog is a place where people can go to find out about the goings on of We Are Vapors, new releases, behind the scenes photos, and random rants about everyday life through the eyes of We Are Vapors.

Any colaborations in the near future, which designers are hot right now? We currently have a few collabs in the works, only one of which I can mention at this time. We are working with a very talented designer by the name of Phallic Mammary. She has worked with several noteable companies’ and we are honored to be working with her… make sure to check her out at: www.phallicmammary.com

Last words? “Dream on Dreamers”

The We Are vapors crew will be here (TONITE) on the 24th, at the Lazer Tag party (*SAY WHAT?*) at the Beauty Bar (Las Vegas)!  Make sure to stop by, and pick up a tee or two…

Dita Eyewear

May 22nd, 2008 | Category: Style

Shades are a must; to keep your celebrity status, you must keep your shades on you at all times… but I’m not talking about those cheezy wrap glasses, but some really dope shit…

With that being said, you have got to check out Dita, from Los Angeles , CA. Dita was co-founded by Jeff Solorio and John Juniper. Dita has been a driving force in the eyewear game since 1996 and have kept the hits coming… their designs consistently grow more appealing than the season before.

Inspired by trends from the 50’s to the 80’s…utilizing the finest materials and craftsmanship… Dita’s design focus is on the actual eyewear piece itself and not on the labels, and logos emblazoned on the side. This allows the wearer to actually use the glasses to compliment his/her wardrobe… not take it over with gaudy design.

***Dita x Cazal*** Collabo

Also, check out the collaboration between Cazal, arguably, the most influential designer in the game, and Dita the latest and greatest in American eyewear… The Cazal 902 was re-released 02/22/2008 through Dita in four colorways. It was the original 902 Cazal with a touch of Dita flavor added (mostly the colorways, packaging, and distribution being handled by Dita). These things are absolutely SICK!

Don’t ask me how, but these were limited to 500 pairs worldwide since the release, and they are still available directly through thier website(link Below)… So, good hunting my friends!!! Dita is not limited to Sunglasses either, they offer a variety of eyewear for prescription use as well, check out the Dita site for more styles … Also, Keep your eyes peeled for more retro action/cazal steez from DITA LEGENDS- online store coming soon!

Hadouken!

May 21st, 2008 | Category: Mp3's, Music

The boys (AND GIRL) from Leeds have finally released their debut album Music For An Accelerated Culture. You may have heard a some sick remixes of their stuff, before… but now they have a full album of unaltered hotness.

Their style is crazy.  Crazy like a modern version of Mortal Kombat music with cheeky lyrics delivered in thick Leed accents.  They are on point.  Check em’ out.

The Very Most

May 19th, 2008 | Category: Mp3's, Music

The Very Most is heartfelt indie pop band from Boise, Idaho. They carefully construct songs rich in melody and substance.

You can tell a lot of time and thought goes into their writing and recording process (none of which is wasted, as far as I’m concerned). They even toy with midi programing here and there and maintain a folk sincerity.

I will say they are in the same league as Apples In Stereo, Shout Out Louds, and I’m From Barcelona and deserve the same notoriety. At the very least, The Very Most deserve a listen. *I predict that last line will get old fast, if it isn’t already.

Brooklyn’s Santogold has been shakin’ things up on the music scene. She has mainly been compared to M.I.A. but No Way. She definitely has her own style. In this awesome interview below, Santogold talks about her musical style and influences.
