Reebok Victory Court Pumps

June 30th, 2008 | Category: Style

Yep, Reebok has re-released the “Victory Court” pumps in yet another set of tasty colors. That’s right, you’ll remember these were the ones worn by tennis superstar Michael Chang in the 90’s… except these ones have fresh new colorways: aqua, orange & white.

Jokers Of The Scene

June 29th, 2008 | Category: Mp3's, Music

These jokers have been holding it down in a major way, in Canada for quite some time. Dj’s Booth & Chameleonic together have been bringing that fire with what could be described as a fitting mix of dark crunchy basslines, hollow reverebed synths, hip hop vocal samples, and straight up old school rave.

Recently this duo was signed to A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold label and have been tagged as the ones to watch. Anyone keeping good company like that is more than likely bound to bring the heat.

Enjoy these cuts!

SUPRA SHOES

June 26th, 2008 | Category: Style

SUPRA makes some nice shoes… They also make apparel, but its there shoes that make these cats some badass ma’ f*ckas! Na mean? I can safely say that Supra has the illest skate shoe in the game!

What makes these guys fresh you ask? Well, they get it. They actually have a clue, they know that they have to make a tough shoe, so that you can skate it, and also make it look fresh as well. This concept will make the guy that doesn’t skate- still wanna cap a pair. They came strong with the release of the Chad Muska skytops, and have been keeping it tight with assorted fruit flavors, and metallic joints to boot. Supra keeps us fed with new colorways every season, and adds new styles on the regular, like their non-signature, “Cuban” lowtop-a slip on with a twist-Straight Killin’ it!!!

Be sure to hit the site to check out the Fall 2008 to drop in stores near you soon. The colors are oh… so… fresh(could we have it any other way?) Personally, I’m feeling the red/white Chad Muska Skytops…

Supratuf.com coming soon.

Afghan Raiders Are Not DJ’s

June 23rd, 2008 | Category: Mp3's, Music

The first thing you might notice when you hit up these guys Myspace is the quote, “We’re not dj’s.” Listen to a couple of their tracks and you can see where this misconception might come from.

Their sound has the intensity of some European superstar dj duo and their groove falls in the Depeche Mode spectrum of electro-blues. The members, Mikey on vocals and sharing the instrumental duties with his mate, Beans, have been spending their time recently writing new tunes and creating a live show that is promised to be way more than two turntables and a microphone.

Check out what the guys had to say when I caught up with them:

How did you to meet? Speed dating

What instruments/programs to you like to incorporate? W e use logic pro, ableton live, some keyboards, and a shammy, an ice pick, and a magic screwdriver.

What artists are you influenced by?

M: I have a open mind to all kinds of music, and I bring in influences from it all. If I had to name some artists, I’d say DFA1979, M.I.A., Digitalism, Madlib or anything released on Stone Throw Records, The Flaming Lips, Beck, and Ghostland Obervatory are some of my favs.

B: For dance influences I’d say Daft Punk, !!!, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, pretty much anything that has ever been on DFA Records, or in the Coachella dance tent. Most recently Hercules and Love Affair. But my favorite bands are Radiohead and Spoon.

How did you get into making dance music?
M: I was always into thrash n’ garage n’ punk music growing up, and still am to this day. I guess I started getting into dance music through listening to bands like DFA1979, Neon Blonde, The Rapture and Shy Child (to name a few) bringing in an energetic, more dancey to their music. I also listen to a lot of beatmakers / DJs / producers like flying lotus, Diplo, and Madlib, which I think help us come from a different perspective when creating our beats.
B: I first got into dance music when my older sister got Daft Punk’s Homework when it first came out. I used to always sneak in her room and steal it. She also had this underground house mix tape from a local radio DJ that had hard hitting house beats with monkey yells over it. It was a really new and fun type of music. I had this old BOSS drum machine from the 80’s my neighbor gave me, and I would record dance beats with a 4 track and no keys, just beats. Later on I got really into electroclash when that started to boom…

Restaurant Review: Mix Zone Cafe, Las Vegas

June 23rd, 2008 | Category: Edibles

Okay, so I found a new little Thai place that well, keeps it simple. The Mix Zone Café on West Charleston is a low-key relaxed joint that offers some of the most spot on Thai food I have had yet in Vegas. Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of Lotus of Siam and Archi’s, but Chef Dan has made his place a strong contender for best Thai food in Vegas.

I sampled the Chicken Satay with the most addicting peanut sauce, Larb salad, Roasted Duck Soup, Pad Thai, and Sticky Rice with Mango. The larb salad was so clean tasting, everything just popped in your mouth. The Roasted Duck Soup was rich and filling with a sweet aftertaste that made you keep slurping. And I have to mention Chef Dan’s Pad Thai. He gave me his reasoning and feelings towards Pad Thai and all I have to say is “more please!”

For once, I had a non-Americanized Pad Thai with lots of vegetables, a very minimal sauce, and delicious tofu (you can have chicken or pork if you like). I did not feel overly full from eating a plateful of carbs with a heavy sauce, rather I felt comfortably full from a well balanced entrée. I did, however, manage to make my pants tighter with dessert: sticky rice and mango. Just a few ingredients (that are a secret) mixed with perfectly cooked rice and a succelent mango….mmmm!!

So give Chef Dan a shot and swing by this locally loved place and when its fucking scorching hot, ask for a lemongrass iced tea!!

*Exclusive Live Mix* DJ Technics “LMR Final Ride @ FLUID” Philly, PA

June 19th, 2008 | Category: DJ Mixes, Events/Parties, Music

DJ Technics is one of the founders of Baltimore Club, a Producer, DJ, owner of baltimoreclubtracks.com , and a cool ass dude. He has helped me personally and others in passing on his sound.

This mix was recorded live June 13th, 2008 at the final event of “Let Me Ride” which was a weekly event held at club fluid… this is where some of the illest dj’s have come in and dropped needles. This was a 3 year run and a big influence in the phillly club scene but it was time to move on and have the opportunity to give a proper send off. With that atmosphere in the air it was time for DJ Technics to close the place down.

This is a great insight to the real sound that was played in Baltimore clubs. Technics uses the Baltimore instrumental loops and drops vocals over them. That is the artistic and creative energy that only a few Baltimore club dj’s can do.

Props to Illy MC on the mic.
